Vic: Child thrown from renegade horse and buggy
MELBOURNE, Dec 4 AAP - A mother was forced to throw her child to safety when a horseand buggy bolted near Kinglake north of Melbourne today.
The woman, aged in her early 30s, threw the toddler onto a thick tussock of grass beforethe horse took off along the bitumen road about 11am (AEDT).
Air ambulance paramedic Mark Scammell said the mother was thrown onto the road moments later.
"It was running along the grass and was then about to run the road so mum, rather thanhave the child crash onto the road, thought pretty quickly.
"And she pushed the child out onto the grass where he bounced pretty well, and thenshe hit the road but she didn't bounce quite as well," Mr Scammell told radio 3AW.
Metropolitan Ambulance spokesman James Howe said the woman was airlifted to The AlfredHospital with serious leg and abdominal injures.
Her 18-month-old son was unscathed.
