Fed: Costello dragged into Hanson affair

Treasurer PETER COSTELLO has been dragged into the controversy over Workplace RelationsMinister TONY ABBOTT'S role in bringing down Pauline Hanson's One Nation party.

Labor's workplace relations spokesman CRAIG EMERSON says Mr COSTELLO'S father-in-lawwas one of three trustees to a fund Mr ABBOTT established for legal action against OneNation.

Mr COSTELLO's father-in-law, PETER COLEMAN, was leader of the New South Wales LiberalParty in 1977-78.

Mr ABBOTT and former Labor senator JOHN WHEELDON were the other trustees of the fund, which raised almost $100,000.

Dr EMERSON has told ABC TV Mr COSTELLO must have been told of the fund and questionedhis knowledge.

Dr EMERSON says he believes that the Australian people have a right to know who providedthe donations, who made the decisions on the disbursements and who received the funds.

Mr ABBOTT has not revealed who donated to the fund.

One Nation dissident TERRY SHARPLES has said Mr ABBOTT had guaranteed him $20,000 tocover court costs if he went ahead with Supreme Court proceedings against the party.

The money never came but the Supreme Court action succeeded in having the party deregistered.
