Fed: Next move on rates more likely upwards: Macfarlane

Reserve Bank governor IAN MACFARLANE says the next move in interest rates is more likely
to be up than down.

Mr MACFARLANE's told a parliamentary committee there's a range of inflationary pressures
across the economy .. including high oil prices .. and the chance of higher-than-expected
wage increases.

Mr MACFARLANE says Australia's economic growth is expected to pick up modestly this year.

And he says the risks posed by an overheating housing market have eased.
